A Seaside Treasure Calling for Discovery

Porec, Croatia, is a stunning coastal town that is, in summer, one of the best places to visit on the Istrian peninsula.

It’s been around for almost two thousand years and is built around a harbour that’s shielded from the sea by a small Sveti Nikola Island (Saint Nicholas Island). It’s a small town with a population of about 12,000 people, most of whom live in the suburbs.

The main tourist spots south of the town are Zelena Laguna (Green Lagoon) and Plava Laguna (Blue Lagoon), which are like mini-cities with lots of hotels, camping, marinas, and stores.

The old town of Porec has a lot of history dating back to the 6th century, and it’s definitely worth a visit. The most famous of these is the Euphrasian Basilica, which is beautifully preserved and has some of the most stunning gold mosaics in the world. It’s actually a collection of different buildings, including the baptismal font and the Bishop’s Palace. You can get in for free, but if you want to make a small donation, you can do that too. In 1997, the basilica was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List.

The Decumanus is Porec’s main street, running from east to west through the city’s historic centre, which was the main street in prehistoric and Roman times. Marafor Square, formerly known as Trg Marafor, was the site of a Roman forum. The remains of two temples, the Neptune and the Mars, remain visible in the area.

Porec has a coastline stretching from north to south for a distance of more than 10 km. The beaches in Porec offer a variety of options for beachgoers, ranging from rocky to cemented, pebbled, and sandy.

Setting Sail from Porec’s Marina

The urban marina in Poreč is situated in the centre of town. Being on the southern side of Town Bay makes it the ideal place for peaceful and recreational sailing throughout the year, providing a safe haven all year round.  The urban marina has 129 sea berths and associated technical and sanitation facilities. The depth of the water ranges from 1-3.5 m. The entrance is 150 m wide by 3.5 m deep.

There is also a boating petrol station with a 5-ton crane. Porec Marina can offer all the technical and professional services to its guests.  The marina services can be accessed 24 hours a day, with check-in and check-out during reception working hours.
