The Golden Island and Sailing Paradise

This island received its nickname because of its importance in history and its abundance of sunshine, with an average of 2,500 hours per year.  The island is known for its bridge, the Krcki Bridge. This bridge has been connecting the island with the mainland since 1980. It makes it easy to drive to and from the Krk. Its crystal clear waters, stunning beaches, and many recreational activities make this Croatian island one of the best vacation destinations.

The island’s capital and the island share a name, Krk. The town of Krk is located on the southwest side of the island. This town dates back to ancient times, being one of the oldest cities in the Adriatic.

The main square of Krk is called Kamplin, from the Latin word “campus”, which means field. The main attractions of this town are the Frankopan castle with its impressive fortress wall, the beautiful Placa Vela square, and the stunning Assumption Cathedral.

This popular tourist destination is not just for tourists; it is also a vacation spot with stunning beaches along its coastline.

The “Golden Island” of the Adriatic Sea is the name that is given to the island of Krk. It is situated in the heart of Kvarney Bay as part of the Croatian archipelago. Together with its neighbour, Island Cres, it is the largest island in this region. The population was 19,300 people in 2011.

Setting Sail from Krk’s Marina

Marina Punat on Krk is one of the oldest Croatian marinas. It is located in a town called Punat on the island of Krk.

Founded in 1964 as a tiny port, it’s now one of the biggest and most stunning marinas in the country. Additionally, it became the first Croatian marina to get the famous Blue Flag in 1998.

Today, Marina Punat boasts 850 berths on 11 pontoon docks for yachts up to 45 metres in length, while the dry marina can accommodate up to 400 yachts up to 10 metres in length. The marina can accommodate a maximum of 1250 yachts.

Through the marina, up to 3,000 transit boats enter annually. It is an ideal starting point for sailing towards the islands of the Kvarner region and the central Dalmatian islands.
